Go Global Export Program supports Chewy Chews

Queensland exporters the engine room of state’s economy

Trade and Investment Queensland has invested another $795,895 in support of expanding international opportunities for Queensland businesses, helping another 35 companies take their products and services to the world. One such business is New Farm’s Chewy Chews, a range of 100% natural, veterinary recommended and Australian made dog treats, all sold online and from the convenience of Australia’s first dog treat and toy vending machine.

What started with two pilot machines in Newstead and Merthyr Village in late 2021, has grown to almost 100 locations across Australia and plans now to break into the North American market with support from the Go Global Export Program. Chewy Chews owner Samantha Guida said the partnership with TIQ had made her business more confident it could grow its international business further in the years to come.

“The all-natural dog treats market is enjoying exponential growth globally and, as one the largest economies and consumer markets in the world, we firmly believe the US is the perfect place to start our international expansion journey,” she said. “We knew of the success stories of TIQ helping Queensland businesses with their export ambitions and, as a first-time exporter, thought it would be of great benefit to us to leverage their vast global network, not only in this initial move overseas but also as our expansion plans grow.

The matched funding grants of up to $25,000 help Queensland businesses overcome common exporting barriers faced when entering new international markets, including accreditation, logistics, packing and product trials. TIQ also helps connect recipients to clients through their extensive international trade network to simplify navigation of local languages, regulations and make valuable introductions.

Since its launch in February 2020, the Go Global Export Program has provided over $3.6 million in total grant funding, delivered almost $39 million in export outcomes, and created 133 new jobs. 58 per cent of Go Global Export Program recipients have been based in regional Queensland. Four of the latest recipients were funded as part of the Queensland-India Trade and Investment Strategy 2023-2027. Another three are Sports Tech companies, which was a priority sector in this round in the lead up to the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Trade and Investment Queensland CEO Justin McGowan said he was “endlessly impressed” by the tenacity and vision of exporters across the state. “The contribution of exports to a flourishing Queensland economy is compelling and at TIQ we remain committed to supporting the successful export journeys of businesses just like these,” he said. “Queensland businesses continue to prove that our state produces products and services of exceptional quality that are increasingly in demand around the world.“ Ongoing support and investment in our exporters is critical as these businesses show that when we stand behind Queensland exporters they unequivocally deliver.”
